Berry Sixth Grade Choir

The Berry Middle School Sixth Grade Choir has been selected to perform at the Alabama Music Educators Association (AMEA) In-Service Conference in Montgomery on Thursday, January 19. The concert will begin at 1:00 p.m. in Ballroom A of the Renaissance Hotel. This performance opportunity is an enormous honor.  The ensemble was chosen through a blind screening process by music educators from around the state. About 1,000 attendees will be present at the conference.

Mrs. Smith's dedication to teaching foundational skills beginning in sixth grade is evident in the success of her choirs. For the past two years, the Berry Middle School Sixth Grade Choir has earned Distinguished Musicianship for all superior ratings at the State Choral Performance Assessment (SCPA). The year before, the ensemble received overall superior ratings. The tradition of excellence continues with the seventh and eighth grade choirs and show choir, who have earned superior and excellent ratings at SCPA and first place at the Music in the Parks Festival in Gatlinburg under Rachel’s direction.

AMEA is the largest community of professional music educators in the state with about 2,000 members. Membership is open to all public, private, and post-secondary music educators, as well as private teachers. AMEA collaborates with local administrators and elected officials in Montgomery and Washington, DC to ensure access to the best possible school music programs for all students. AMEA is an affiliate of the National Association for Music Education, an organization of over 130,000 members dedicated to advancing and preserving music education as part of the core curriculum.
